Code Vein II Blood Code Tier List: Best Classes Ranked
Ranks the Blood Codes in Code Vein II by tier, from S-rank standouts to niche picks, with stat tables, burden tips, and solo build combos.
Blood Codes are the class system in Code Vein II, except you can hot-swap them like gear. There are 57 of them in the base game, each one re-writing your six attributes (Strength, Dexterity, Mind, Willpower, Vitality, Fortitude) and handing you three passive Traits. Your level doesn't raise those attributes at all - the code on your back is your entire build. So picking the right one matters a lot more here than in most action RPGs.
This tier list leans on the stat spreads from the community wiki plus what the big guide sites and players have settled on since launch. The short version: a few late-game codes are flatly better than everything else, a big middle pack is strong for hybrid setups, and the rest are situational toys that need the right build around them.
S-Tier Blood Codes and Why They Excel
S-tier means the stat spread is huge, the Traits stay useful from the moment you get the code all the way into the post-game, and the kit doesn't fight itself. These five check every box.
| Blood Code | STR | DEX | MND | WIL | VIT | FOR | |---|---|---|---|---|---|---| | Acedia Bloodline: Zenon 2 | 25 | 25 | 13 | 13 | 26 | 19 | | Patientia Bloodline: Iris 3 | 32 | 10 | 12 | 6 | 27 | 17 | | Superbia Bloodline: Lavinia 3 | 11 | 11 | 20 | 34 | 13 | 20 | | Superbia Bloodline: Lou 5 | 22 | 16 | 32 | 22 | 24 | 15 | | Hero Valentin | 33 | 33 | 10 | 16 | 12 | 20 |
Acedia Bloodline: Zenon 2
Zenon 2 is probably the best all-round code in the game, and the reason is one Trait: with no conditions attached, it spreads your equipment burden across three pairs - Strength/Dexterity, Mind/Willpower, and Vitality/Fortitude. Burden is the whole meta of this game (more on that below), and Zenon 2 basically lets you ignore a chunk of it. Stack that with 25 STR, 25 DEX, and 26 VIT, and you can equip almost any weapon plus heavy armor without the usual penalties.
The cherry on top is the sunny weather Trait: attack and defense both go up when the sun's out, and you can flip the weather at a Mistle whenever you like. Free damage, more or less permanent. Grab Zenon 2 by maxing proficiency on Zenon 1 after recruiting him in the 2207: Upheaval era.
Patientia Bloodline: Iris 3
If Zenon 2 is the flexible pick, Iris 3 is the sledgehammer. It runs 32 STR and 27 VIT, the highest Strength plus survivability combo you can get, and its Balance sits at 81 - the chunkiest anti-stagger number of any code, so you can charge a heavy attack through a hit without flinching. Its Trait set leans into that: Balance rises further while a defense-up forma buff is active, and when your combined HP and LP run low, any overburden state kicks your Balance up again. That's a last-stand buff you don't have to build around.
The trade is real though. Max Ichor is only 12 and the Bleed Factor is a low 28, so drains give you back less ichor. One-shot hammer builds don't care - you're fishing for a single fully charged hit, not a drain loop. Game8's Iris one-shot build pairs it with the Tyrant's Labrys hammer for exactly that.
Superbia Bloodline: Lavinia 3
Best caster code, no contest. Lavinia 3 packs a 34 Willpower (magic forma damage) and the highest Max Ichor on this list at 22. Its Traits form a clean little engine: status ailment buildup is boosted, you recover ichor every time you inflict a status, and if you're overburdened, the ailments you stack on one enemy also spread to nearby ones. So you sling statuses, and the statuses pay for more casting. Mob rooms basically clear themselves.
The catch? Balance 32. You get sneezed on and you stagger. Keep a defensive forma handy and don't get greedy in melee.
Superbia Bloodline: Lou 4 and Lou 5
Lou starts as your beginner code and quietly becomes one of the best endgame ones. Lou 5 hits 22 STR, 32 MND, 22 WIL, and 24 VIT - that Mind stat is the star, since Mind extends support forma buff duration, and Lou's Traits are all Mind-margin triggered. Keep your Mind burden 10 to 14 under your Mind stat and you get cheaper guards plus an attack bump after every drain attack. Game8 rates the Lou line as a top early code; GamerBlurb calls Lou 4 the strongest code overall for its scaling and Trait consistency. Reaching Lou 5 takes a while (max proficiency on Lou 4, then recruit Lou during the Upheaval era), so treat ranks 3 and 4 as the working versions.
Hero Valentin
Dropped by the Hero Valentin boss fight, this one runs 33 STR and 33 DEX at the same time - split codes are usually mediocre, but 33/33 is simply a lot of both. It's the backbone of Game8's Sunblight halberd build with the Solar Halberd: Zenon, which cycles Sunblight applications for huge burst. Low VIT (12) means you'll want armor or a Vitality Booster to cover the thin defenses.
Honorable mention: the Resurgence Core code (38 STR, 24 VIT), which only drops after you've cleared two full endings ('A Hero's End' and 'Luna Fraterna') and then rescued Lou. It's built for New Game Plus with boosted attack and defense-shredding melee, and it would rank right alongside these five if it weren't locked behind most of a second playthrough.
Mid-Tier Blood Codes for Hybrid Builds
The middle of the pack is where the hybrid codes live. These have split stats that support two weapon types at once, or strong Traits with one awkward condition. None of them are bad - they're just not as free-form as the S-tier five.
| Blood Code | STR | DEX | MND | WIL | VIT | FOR | |---|---|---|---|---|---|---| | Superbia Bloodline: Noah 4 | 22 | 31 | 7 | 14 | 22 | 24 | | Gula Bloodline: Josee 4 | 31 | 16 | 24 | 11 | 25 | 18 | | Luxuria Bloodline: Holly 3 | 13 | 24 | 16 | 39 | 12 | 17 | | Acedia Bloodline: Jadwiga 3 | 10 | 23 | 15 | 33 | 15 | 18 | | Patientia Bloodline: Craig 2 | 34 | 13 | 9 | 6 | 27 | 22 | | Superbia Bloodline: Valentin 3 | 21 | 21 | 8 | 27 | 11 | 17 | | Patientia Bloodline: Lyle 3 | 17 | 38 | 14 | 7 | 14 | 30 |
Superbia Bloodline: Noah 3 and 4
Noah's line is the Dexterity king that also refuses to be squishy. Noah 4 runs 31 DEX for twin blades and bayonets, plus 22 VIT and 24 FOR so you keep stamina and health while you flurry. The signature Trait ramps attack power with consecutive hits and only resets when you get hit or whiff. It demands a Strength/Dexterity margin of 5, so keep your gear light or the Trait shuts off. The hidden gem: Noah's second Trait lets you survive a fatal hit with 1 LP while assimilated - more on why that's great in the solo section.
Gula Bloodline: Josee 3 and 4
Josee's codes are the close-combat engine. Big STR (31 on rank 4), big Mind (24), and a Trait that pays out ichor on every weapon attack, at the cost of recoil damage if you overfill. Rank 3 is the sweet spot for most of the game; rank 4 requires recruiting Josee in the Upheaval era. This is the code behind Game8's Fusillade Rondo bayonet build with the grenade launcher - constant ranged pressure that never runs dry on ichor.
Luxuria Bloodline: Holly 2 and 3
Holly 3's 39 Willpower actually beats Lavinia 3's, so why is it a tier down? The Traits. Holly's kit is about survivability while casting - HP restored on kills, resistance to getting disrupted mid-cast, and the ability to spend HP when you're out of ichor. All good, none of it multiplies your damage the way Lavinia's status engine does. Great second code for a caster who keeps dying; Holly 2 is the version most builds actually run since it's easier to unlock.
Acedia Bloodline: Jadwiga 3
Jadwiga is the bayonet-mage hybrid: 23 DEX and 33 Willpower together, with a Trait that boosts magic forma attack at just a Willpower margin of 9 (easy), one that lets you spend HP to reload when out of ammo, and an overburden-only Trait that pays ichor on dagger hits. If your build wants to shoot and cast in the same fight, this is the code. Unlock rank 3 by maxing rank 2, beating Zenon Gryfgote, and talking to Jadwiga.
Patientia Bloodline: Craig 2
Pure tank. 34 STR, 27 VIT, and Traits that reward getting smacked: attack power rises when you take hits or guard, successful guards apply bleed to the attacker, and HP damage is softened when a hit would eat through your LP. Game8's one-shot two-handed sword build runs Craig 2 with the Cultist's Ritual Blade, stacking attack buffs into a single gigantic swing. Kind of a pain to unlock (rank 1 drops from Mutated Survivor Bernd, rank 2 needs Lyle's requests done), but worth it.
Superbia Bloodline: Valentin 3 and Patientia Bloodline: Lyle 3
Valentin 3 (21/21 STR/DEX with 27 WIL) is the generic "good at everything" hybrid - stamina up, bleed factor up, and a fun risk Trait that trades stamina recovery speed for more max ichor. Lyle 3 is the Dexterity extremist: 38 DEX, 30 Fortitude, and parry plus perfect-dodge Traits that stack attack power. Lyle 3 is stronger on paper but demands you actually parry and dodge cleanly. If your hands can do it, it plays like an S-tier code; if they can't, the Traits sit there dead.
Situational and Niche Blood Codes
These codes aren't worse because their numbers are small (some have huge numbers). They're niche because their Traits need very specific setups, or they're one-trick ponies, or they're missable.
The overburden specialists
Here's the weird one: some codes want you to break the rules on purpose. Each attribute's overburden state has an upside as well as a penalty, and these codes cash in on the upside.
- Josee the Blind Hero (17/17/10/5/14/14) adds even MORE Strength/Dexterity burden on top of your gear, then pays you with attack power after every perfect dodge and a boost to the Bloodreaver Blade. Gula Bloodline: Josee (Blind) is the stat-monster version at 30 STR / 30 DEX / 25 VIT / 25 FOR, with STR and DEX margins of 20 that let you strap on heavy gear while staying under the Trait line. Wiki regulars rate the intentional STR-overburden bonk build with Josee as one of the hardest-hitting setups in the game. Both are missable - you only get them if you avoided saving Josee before the Upheaval era.
- Patientia Bloodline: Lyle (Artificial Arm) (40 STR, 32 FOR, but 12 VIT) has the single best meme Trait in the game: with a Strength margin of 24, you can equip a two-handed sword in your one-handed slot. One-handed moveset, two-handed damage. Also missable (don't save Lyle, then recruit him in Upheaval).
- Luxuria Bloodline: Holly (Condemned) (12/24/14/32/18/20) recovers ichor on perfect dodges with a Willpower margin of 24 - the dodge-caster's code. Missable too.
The partner-focused codes
Luxuria Bloodline: Lycoris 1 and 2 boost your partner's attack power with a Mind margin of 12, and picking up dropped Haze restores Regeneration charges. Sounds nice, but that attack boost does nothing when you assimilate your partner for solo play, which is how a lot of people run the game. Luxuria Bloodline: Camilo (21/12/18/10/19/12) restores HP when you use Regeneration items - solid, boring, fine.
The early and no-frills codes
Guardian's Heart (12/12/8/8/12/10, from Lou during the quest to save Noah) has zero Traits but clean, even stats, so it's a decent blank-slate code for the first few areas. Superbia Bloodline: Frantz (10/15/8/12/10/12) is bayonet-flavored and imposes a constant burden. Neither lasts long once partner codes rank up.
The Hero boss codes
Most of the 2277-era boss drops land here: Hero Lyle (10 DEX-burden added, 30 DEX, consumes LP to raise attack), One-Armed Hero Lyle (26 STR, speeds up charged actions, discounts the Absolute Executioner forma), Hero Holly (buffs the MK Rosenritter forma), Hero Holly the Reaper (attack up but slower forma casting), Hero Zenon (18/18/22/12/20/15, extends forma effect duration), Hero Josee (combat forma attack up at higher ichor cost), Lost Camilo (24 STR / 26 VIT, and your Balance stays active even when you're not acting - genuinely unique), and Pioneer Queen Imogen (19/22, boosts damage against enemies suffering status ailments).
Two stand above the pack. Soul Savior Valentin (26/26/16/30/16/18, from the Sealing Spire after one ending) is a well-rounded STR/DEX/WIL monster that plays like a mid-plus hybrid. And the Resurgence Core covered earlier would be S-tier if a second playthrough weren't the entry fee.
Stat Scaling Across Base Parameters
Time for the part that decides whether any of these codes actually work. Six attributes, and each one touches something specific:
- Strength - attack power of heavy weapons: two-handed swords, hammers, and some halberds.
- Dexterity - attack power of light weapons: twin blades and bayonets.
- Mind - duration of support forma buffs. Higher Mind, longer buffs.
- Willpower - attack power of magic formae.
- Vitality - max HP and max LP.
- Fortitude - max stamina.
Two things make this system different from a normal RPG. First, leveling up at a Mistle only raises your HP, stamina, and weapon attack values - your six attributes come from the Blood Code, Boosters, and food buffs, nothing else. Second, every piece of gear adds burden to specific attributes, and when gear burden exceeds the attribute, you go overburden. That's not automatically bad, because each overburden state has a perk and a penalty:
| Attribute | Overburden perk | Overburden penalty | |---|---|---| | Strength | Close-range attack up | Missed attacks chew extra stamina | | Dexterity | More ichor from drain attacks | Getting hit drains ichor | | Mind | Bigger max ichor pool | Constant LP/HP damage unless a forma buff is active | | Willpower | Forma attack power up | Attack drops for a while if a forma fails from low ichor | | Vitality | Regeneration heals more | Mobility drops when LP falls under a threshold | | Fortitude | Stamina back on successful evades | Empty stamina bar inflicts Inhibit |
Now the Margin math, because half the Traits in the game hinge on it. A Trait listed as "Strength Margin 10" means your Strength burden has to stay at least 10 under your Strength stat. STR stat of 20 with Strength Margin 8? Your total STR burden must be 12 or less, or the Trait switches off. This is why spread codes with big stats (Zenon 2, Hero Valentin) are so strong - high stats mean more room before the margins break.
Weapon pairing is the other half. Every weapon lists its attribute modifiers, and the attack number you see is the weapon's base plus a modifier that scales off the attributes it cares about. A 38 Dexterity code with a Dexterity-scaling weapon is the whole game. Jadwiga can transform weapons later in the story to change their scaling or add permanent elements, so a weapon that doesn't fit your code now might fit after a transformation. And don't sleep on the second weapon slot - cover a weakness, like a hammer main keeping a bayonet for flyers.
Last thing: Bleed Factor, Max Ichor, and Balance are code stats too. Bleed Factor decides how fast you stack bleed on enemies, and a big drain on a fully bled enemy refills more ichor and resets the buildup. Max Ichor is your casting pool. Balance is stagger resistance - anything under about 40 means you'll get knocked around, so those codes want a defensive forma or heavy armor to compensate.
Best Blood Code Combos for Solo Play
Quick mechanic check first. Partners in Code Vein II can either be summoned to fight beside you, or assimilated - stored in your Jail so you fight alone. Assimilation is the solo mode, and it's honestly the stronger way to play for a lot of builds: your partner's LP becomes a shield bar that soaks damage before your HP, you keep their support buffs, and some partners' Link Traits only switch on while assimilated. Restorative Offering (your partner's revive when your HP hits 0) works either way, though it's on a cooldown.
So who wants to go it alone? Basically any code that doesn't rely on a partner dealing damage. Here are combos that hold up from the mid-game through NG+:
The unkillable Dexterity build
Superbia Bloodline: Noah 3 or 4, Fangs of the Hunter twin blades, and Noah assimilated. You get the consecutive-hits attack ramp for DPS, the big FOR stat for stamina, and the ace card: while assimilated, you survive any fatal hit with 1 LP. That's a free death every fight, on top of the LP shield. Keep your STR/DEX burden 5 under the line so the ramp Trait stays live. Squishy bosses stop being scary when the game hands you a do-over.
The one-shot hammer
Patientia Bloodline: Iris 2 or 3 with the Tyrant's Labrys. Stack every next-hit-damage buff and attack forma buff, walk up to the boss, and let one fully charged hammer swing go. Balance 81 means trades don't interrupt your charge, and the low-HP Balance boost doubles as a panic button. Low Max Ichor hurts the drain loop, but a one-shot build only needs enough ichor for the buffs. If the first swing doesn't kill, the second usually does.
The self-fueling gunner
Gula Bloodline: Josee 3, grenade launcher bayonet, and the Fusillade Rondo forma. Josee's Trait pays ichor on weapon attacks, and gunner builds hit constantly, so your casting pool refills itself while you kite. Stay at range, don't overfill (the recoil damage is real), and use drains only when it's safe. This is the smoothest solo clear for people who hate eating boss combos.
The safe caster
Luxuria Bloodline: Holly 2 with the Stealth Blades rune blades, Draconic Stake for burst, and Stun Shot to create openings. Cast from far away, stun anything that gets close, and spend HP instead of ichor when the pool runs dry - Holly's Trait lets you do exactly that. Swap to Lavinia 3 once you unlock it if you want the ailment-spread engine instead; the two share enough Willpower scaling that your formae carry over.
The early-game bridge
Superbia Bloodline: Lou 2 with Carmilla's Thorn, charged heavy attacks, and the Secret Art - Forestall forma. Poke from mid-range, let the Mind-margin Traits handle guard stamina and post-drain attack, and profit. It's a starter code doing starter work, but it'll carry you to Iris and Josee without embarrassing you.
One last habit worth building: after any gear change, open the Trait List in the stats menu before you leave the Mistle. A margin Trait silently dies the moment your burden crosses the line, and the game won't warn you mid-fight. An S-tier code with dead Traits is just a stat block with good PR - and a quick menu check takes five seconds.
